Portable Hair Salon

When it comes to hairdressers in Manchester we are spoiled for choice. There are some classy places in Manchester Central but the parking and traffic can be off putting and the prices can be a lot higher. Luckily you don't have to move far out of town to get much more affordable rates and without having to lower your standards - one such new establishment I had the good fortune to come across was a salon in Stockport.

It only opened this year on Lower Hillgate but, as is usually the case, although the salon is new the staff have come from various other (some quite famous) hair salons and have years of experience. I have had to use hairdressers from all over the North West as my job means I have to move around.

When I'm meeting an important client or having to go straight from an appointment to a party I like to get my hair done first - so I haven't always been able to use my regular salon. I never cease to be amazed at the variation of service, price and quality - from the very friendly service and great attention to detail and then only charging me £29, to feeling brushed off and rushed in a busy salon and being left £79 lighter at the till.

If you have a good hairdresser at a good price I wouldn't be too quick to dream of some of the bigger names and fancier salons as you could be very disappointed. Increasingly the more enter prising hair dressers are adding services to their offerings - nail manicures or even a fully trained beautician on the premises. This is a real bonus as it can save time and is often cheaper than a specialist beautician.

While I usually do book, I also really appreciate those that do make the effort at fitting me in when I haven't - as happened at this salon - if I haven't booked it is usually an emergency (for me anyway!) so the last thing I need is a snooty lecture on "You should have booked". I know - I would have but...

You can tell that has happened to me too often before! Hence I was more than impressed when James stayed late to fit me in - and did a great job too. Let's have more service like that I say.
